Held with the Indian Red Cross Society and Scarlet Foundation as part of our Independence Day camps, this was a chance for people across Kallakurichi to have their liver checked at ₹450 instead of the usual ₹6,000.
A Fibroscan is quick and painless — no needles, no preparation. A probe rests on the skin over the liver and measures how much fat has built up and how stiff the tissue has become. That matters because liver damage is silent in its early stages: by the time someone feels unwell, a great deal of harm has often already been done. Catching fat build-up or early scarring gives people the chance to act while the liver can still recover.
Everyone screened was seen by Dr. S. Ponnarasu, who went through the results with them and explained what the numbers meant and what to do next. Those with findings that needed follow-up were advised on treatment and diet, and offered a further appointment at the centre.
